Ramadan 2017 in Abu Dhabi

Saturday 27th May marks the first day of Ramadan in the UAE in 2017. Known as the Holy Month, Ramadan usually lasts 29 or 30 days. Depending upon the sighting of the moon, Ramadan is expected to end on either Saturday 24th June or Sunday 25th June. The end of Ramadan is marked by the Eid Al Fitr public holiday. The number of days given for this public holiday will be announced towards the end of Ramadan.
If you are working, living in, or just visiting Abu Dhabi during the coming month, please be aware of the following changes:
Ramadan working hours in UAE
Working hours for the private sector are reduced by two hours per day. There is no reduction in salary. Working hours for the public sector are reduced to 9am - 2pm.
Reduced School Hours
School days will be a maximum of five hours. Boys schools will start at 8am. Girls schools and kindergartens will start at 9am.
Ramadan 2017 Changes to Paid Parking Times
Paid parking will be split into two periods: 9am - 2pm and 9pm - 2:30am. Note, on Thursday evenings, the paid parking runs until midnight. Parking is free on Fridays. Paid parking commences on Saturday mornings at 8:59am.
Parking by mosques will be free during taraweeh prayers.
Residents-only parking will run 9pm - 8am.
Ramadan 2017 Changes to Public Transport In Abu Dhabi
Bus services in Abu Dhabi will stop 6pm - 8:30pm. Note, bus number A1 , from Al Zahiyah to Abu Dhabi International Airport, will continue to as usual.
Bus services in Al Ain will stop 6pm - 8pm. Note, bus number X90 will continue as usual.
Bus services in Al Dhafra will stop 6:30pm - 8:30pm.
Ramadan 2017 Changes to Rules for Lorries, Heavy Vehicles and Large Buses
Lorries and heavy vehicles are banned from the roads 8am - 10am and 2pm - 4pm.
Workers’ transport buses with more than 50 passengers are banned from the roads 8am to 10am.
